The benefit of this design is that each space can be enjoyed individually, but can also be used together as a total outdoor living environment. The open-air space is perfect for grilling and outdoor dining. The protected space provides panoramic views by way of a 4-track window system. These windows can be opened to any height up to 75% of the screened opening. Windows like these allow you to choose the amount of airflow, thereby creating a climate-controlled “outdoor” space.

Imagine Relaxing on this Beautiful Backyard Covered Porch

Imagine opening your back door and stepping into a lovely covered porch that is an extension  of your interior living space;  an area that flows seamlessly from inside to outside; a space that adds to the enjoyment and pleasure of your home. These Greensboro homeowners had that vision but needed some assistance with integrating their ideas into an actual outdoor room. The results, you will agree, are amazing.

Lovely open porch with TimberTech decking in silver maple

We provided guidance throughout the planning and design process of this covered porch project.

The genesis of this covered porch project started with the homeowners knowing they wanted an outdoor living space, but not quite sure how they could integrate it with their already beautifully landscaped backyard, which was a tad too sunny and warm in the heat of a summer day. After several designs and some time discussing the finer details, the results are beautiful and the space is a cherished addition to the home.

A hip roof covered porch with finished ply bead ceiling, floating bench, ceiling fan and privacy screen make this outdoor addition special, and the trim truly sets it apart. The homeowners had a specific look they were going for and with the help of our designer they were able to achieve it. The gently arched trim with the custom detail makes this porch unique to this house and blends seamlessly with the existing architecture of the home.

These Wesley Park homeowners now see the light

large screened porch Kernersville NC by ArchadeckOne thing that’s a big consideration when adding a porch to your home is how it will affect the view and light from your current interior windows. You want a bright and airy room on the back of your home but you don’t want to compromise all of the light you currently get.

Archadeck of Piedmont Triad recently overcame that challenge while designing a screened porch in the Wesley Park Community of Kernersville, NC.  The owners wanted to add airy, functional living space to the rear of their home, but didn’t want to compromise the peaceful wooded view they enjoyed from inside.  We devised a solution that enables them to enjoy the view from inside their home through the window and all around them from the porch.

wide opening screen porch pot belly railsThere were several keys to success for this project.  The first was to use wide-screened openings that minimize the obstruction of the view while maximizing the penetration of the light and air.  The second was to use lots of wood in the construction of the porch that complements the colors of the trees in the area–the porch dividers blend into the background with little visual disturbance.  The porch is also longer than it is wide, so the porch roof doesn’t block very much natural light to the window.  A black metal belly rail looks ornamental, but provides additional safety for animals and children.

The porch has stairs matched to the rail that connect the porch to the yard and the existing patio, providing easy access to the brick patio and stunning backyard.  Both the patio and porch have seating areas, so it’s easy to choose screened porch and paver patio Kernersvillewhere to relax based on their mood or the weather.  The beaded plywood ceiling and wood-toned ceiling fan fit in seamlessly with the rest of the space and look far more expensive than their actual cost.

We were thrilled that when our clients were looking for a Kernersville porch builder that they chose us.  We enjoyed the challenge of making the most of that focal point window from both inside and out.  We are delighted that our project provides not just shade and bug protection, but  adds enormously to the value and enjoyment of their home year-round.

What’s the best way to find reputable deck builders in Greensboro NC?

Finding reputable deck builders in Greensboro NC is the first step in getting the outdoor living space you dream of.

Here in the age of the Internet, your first step will be to perform a search for “composite deck builders near me” or “Greensboro deck builders.” These searches can yield literally millions of pages of results, which can seem overwhelming. Perhaps instead of visiting a deck builder’s website right away, you take a look at that deck builder’s reviews. In addition to those, you might seek out Google and social media reviews. And we believe that is a great place to start!

Greensboro Deck Builders – What to Look for On Their Website

When you visit a deck contractor’s website, you want to be sure that the photos you are seeing are actual project photos. Some nefarious contractors will use stock photography or even steal project photos from other deck contractors in Greensboro NC; Or other locations. When you see a project photo, note that the deck contractor that built the project will have a project description. This can include particulars about the project site, the clients’ needs, and of course, information about how the project was built and the products used to build it.

You might also find other great qualifying information online about deck builders in Greensboro NC. This could be a BBB rating, record of their contractor’s license, or off-site project specifics, like those you find on Pinterest or Houzz. Your deck builder should be licensed and insured, and any worth their salt will be happy to share those credentials with you.

Having been a deck builder in Greensboro NC since 1991, we truly enjoy designing beautiful, high-quality decks and porches. Many of our clients are willing to speak with prospective clients for a real-person account of what it’s like working with Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad.

Here’s what some of our clients have to say.

We can’t say enough POSITIVE about the work done by every single person that showed up to lay tile, do electrical, painting, etc. Everything went according to plan and we are MORE THAT SATISFIED. We think that every employee and every sub contractor that we meet went above and beyond the call of duty. We are THRILLED by our new sun room. We love it and we love all the folks at Archadeck.

Saying this screened porch conversion was a change for the better for these Oak Ridge, NC homeowners would be an understatement indeed

These Oak Ridge, NC homeowners were tired of getting sunburn and fighting insects in order to use their backyard deck. They decided to contact Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad to make a change for the better. Following a consultation with these Arbor Run residents, we were able to come up with a design that would put an end to their backyard woes.

By adding a screened porch to their existing deck we were able to accentuate the positive aspects of their outdoor living experience while eliminating the negative. Not only does the new screened porch provide a haven from the hot sun, the screened-in porch also provides a protected, bug-free spot to enjoy the outdoors. The screened porch gives the homeowners a plethora of outdoor living possibilities. The homeowners now view their outdoor space in a different light since the addition of their screen porch has been completed. To say converting their existing deck into a screened porch was a change for the better would definitely be an understatement. The new space has added function and beauty to their backyard and lifestyle.

To enhance the beautiful cathedral ceilings we finished them with plybead that has been stained, which adds depth.

We used a combination gable roof and flat roof design with a screened-in gable. The interior of the screened porch is finished with a plybead ceiling which was stained to add depth and contrast to the soaring cathedral-height ceiling. The interior also includes a ceiling fan to promote even better air flow for keeping the space cool and comfortable. Another eye-catching feature of the porch are the black belly rail pickets used in the room. The pickets add character and elegance to the space.

The entire project came together beautifully, from start to finish. The homeowners are looking forward to the upcoming outdoor living season and to being able to enjoy their backyard in peace without the sunburn and the mosquitoes!

Kernersville Sunroom in Kensington Village, Just What the Doctor Ordered

Our reputation preceded us for this sunroom project in Kernersville NC.

This project was our fifth outdoor living project completed in this Kernersville community. We are honored to have been the choice sunroom builder among the Kensington Village residents and look forward to more upcoming projects in this beautiful community.

A classic beadboard ceiling and dual ceiling fans add to the charm of the new space.

As your sunroom builder, Archadeck will work to meet your specific needs.

When our Design Consultant met with these Kensington Village homeowners to discuss their sunroom addition, it marked our second outdoor living room project within this neighborhood. This project needed to accommodate health concerns of the homeowner, who cannot tolerate cold weather. Therefore, we set out to build a four-season space in place of their existing porch, which was rendered unusable in cool weather.

Kernersville NC sunroom by Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad

How can a room be built on top of an existing porch?

A lot of preparation is required in order to turn an existing structure into a sunroom. A new sub-floor was required to support the weight of the sunroom. We also installed new siding with white trim to make the sunroom appear original to the existing home. New sliding glass doors allow for easy access to the deck, which still provides the family with an fully outdoor living option. In order to keep the temperature within the sunroom well-regulated we installed heavily insulated Atrium brand windows with full screens. The windows are not only heavily insulated to keep the cold out, they are also low E argon and gas windows as well. Having the added comfort of screens on the windows allows the homeowners to enjoy warm days with the breeze flowing through.

sunroom design Kernersville NC
By using Low E and argon gas windows, this sunroom neutralizes the effects of changing weather on the inside of the home and promotes a prolonged, constant temperature.

Low E and argon gas windows diminish the effects of changing weather on the inside of the sunroom and allow a sustained temperature. They are designed with double or triple-pane glass to protect against air leakage. Argon gas is better at reflecting heat compared to simple air. This means heat is inhibited from entering the sunroom while the interior warmth remains constant. Regardless of the season, this ensures the climate stability in this sunroom.

Four-season additions add value to the way you use your home.

Four-season room additions can greatly enhance your personal comfort and can add beauty and curb appeal to your home. Although a sunroom is considered a room addition because it requires a foundation and a roof, it delivers the luxury and elegance that a simple room addition lacks. A sunroom is a cost-effective way to add square footage to your home and increase outdoor living enjoyment at the same time.

Sunrooms offer an indoor-outdoor living experience.

As is the case with many of the sunroom additions we build, this homeowner wanted to enjoy the benefits of an outdoor room without being fully outdoors. This sunroom was also a perfect choice for the homeowner’s medical needs. These Kensington Village homeowners are elated with their new outdoor living room.

This Summerfield, NC outdoor living combination gets a facelift and so much more!

Summerfield NC screen porch, deck and patio combination in Lennox Woods
This Summerfield, NC backyard is now the epitome of low-maintenance.

One of our specialties here at Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad is taking an existing outdoor space and improving the quality, beauty and function in order for the homeowner to make better use of their space. That is exactly what happened when we were referred to these Summerfield, NC homeowners to work with them on their space.

These Lennox Woods homeowners were hoping to use their screened porch more months of the year.

Summerfield NC AZEK decks by Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad
We expanded the existing deck and resurfaced it in ultra-low-maintenance AZEK decking and railing.

They wanted a larger deck and they wanted both spaces to utilize low-maintenance materials. This would allow more time to enjoy the spaces and less time maintaining it. Last but not least, accessibility was a concern as their existing space had only one set of stairs.

Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad began the project by wrapping their screened porch in white aluminum and adding an Eze Breeze window system, also in white, to the screened porch. Eze Breeze windows enable you to turn your screened porch into a 3-season room to utilize the space for more months of the year. Eze Breeze is a convenient sliding window system that works by allowing you to control the amount of screen you leave exposed. The sliding panels can close completely creating a room with the feel of a sunroom. With this versatile enclosure system, these Summerfield homeowners can make use of their screened porch many more months of the year.

Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad added an additional stairway that spills into the stunning patio below the deck.

Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad then expanded and resurfaced the existing deck with beautiful, low-maintenance AZEK decking in Morado. We also added black AZEK railing to compliment the hue used on the decking and to make the entire space cohesive. AZEK is at the forefront of low-maintenance decking. It’s engineered to withstand everyday traffic and weather. This material is stain, scratch and split resistant and is impervious to mold, mildew and insects.

We took the design of this outdoor living combination a step further by adding an additional set of stairs. The space now has two sets of stairs. One leads to the existing patio and the other leads into the spacious backyard. The new design completes the feel and flow of the outdoor oasis they always wanted.

Revisting this NW Winston Salem home the second time around resulted in an outdoor living combination loaded with charm

Deck and patio combination in NW Winston Salem
Our recently completed outdoor living combination in NW Winston-Salem includes a deck, patio and under deck space that functions like a covered patio.

Here is a photo of the backyard before we began the project.
Here is a photo of the backyard before we began the project.

Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad initially met with these Northwest Winston-Salem homeowners a year ago for a consultation to discuss the outdoor living space they had in mind. The homeowners conveyed to us their love for grilling outside and in general, their love for the outdoors. They enjoyed sitting outside and making the most out of the warm afternoons and spring to fall breezes our region is known for. Their existing outdoor space did not look or function the way they wished. At the time, they wanted the new design to be built using composite and not wood and they also were thinking of screening part of the deck so they could still enjoy the outdoors when it rained. We went over all the options shortly after our consultation, but a decision was not made at that time.

This photo shows the new and improved outdoor living space in NW Winston-Salem by Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad.

Recently, we were contacted by these homeowners to discuss putting their plans for an updated outdoor living space into action. Even though it had been a year since we last spoke with them, they were exuberant and excited to pick up and go ahead with the project they had considered the previous year. The time was right, so we carefully went over all the specifications for the project which included refurbishing their existing deck with wood, adding a functional under-deck living space and patio with seating wall.

NW Winston Salem patio builders
View from deck into the patio space below, notice the way the curved seating wall ties the design together perfectly.

The outdoor living combination they ended up deciding upon added function, beauty and tremendous charm to their home and landscape. In essence, these NW Winston-Salem homeowners were on target to get the backyard of their dreams this season. We began the project by refurbishing their spacious deck with wood and stunning contrasting black aluminum rails. Under the deck we installed a Dry Snap under-deck system which allows the homeowners to utilize the space similar to a covered porch or patio. Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad uses the DrySnap under deck rain carrying system on many of our projects. We have found that the DrySnap system works best and is the easiest way to create functional space under your raised deck. DrySnap® is made of vinyl ceiling panels that collect and drain water away from your new dry space. It provides a maintenance free ceiling that covers the unsightly underside of your deck, turning it into a clean, bright, dry outdoor space. Having a covered under deck space opens the door for endless outdoor living possibilities.

The coup de grâce to this outdoor living combination was the addition of a gorgeous stamped concrete patio with curved seating wall and outdoor lighting. The patio area adds the final touch to this outdoor living space and extends the homeowner’s enjoyment past what they initially thought was within their budget to achieve. The finished project looks as if it came out of the pages of one of those glossy outdoor living magazines and the homeowners are elated with their new backyard space.

Archadeck of The Piedmont Triad ponders the question: Build a new deck or re-deck?

Would it be better to build a new deck or redo your existing deck with new decking boards?

Now is the time of year we imagine ourselves outdoors, whether on a new deck or an existing outdoor living space. Springtime is often the time of year we consider home upgrades. After all, it’s the time of year our porches, decks, and patios will be put to the test. Homeowners want an outdoor living space that is packed with functionality and style, but have you considered whether your deck is structurally sound?

Building a New Deck vs. Deck Renovation

Archadeck of The Piedmont Triad takes all your existing deck circumstances into consideration when evaluating whether it is a good candidate for re-decking. We consider the age and structural integrity of your deck before deciding whether a new deck or deck renovation is the better course of action. Other High Point deck builders will meet with a client and automatically suggest new deck construction. Our deck safety inspection offers homeowners a professional inspection during which we will determine whether a new deck is necessary.

What does a deck safety inspection include?

We will check all existing decking boards and scrutinize hardware and connectors, noting their condition. We will evaluate the structural framework of your deck, including posts and joists. Additionally, we will inspect the deck’s attachment to the home, as well as the foundation, footings, railing and deck exits.

Redeck Archadeck of the Piedmont triad
Re-decking may be a viable option for you if your decking framework is structurally sound.

During this deck safety inspection, we will discuss necessary updates, as well as your desires. If your deck is in good structural condition, perhaps you only wish to upgrade your decking boards to a composite material. Or you might consider upgrading your deck railing. Updated deck railings can really improve the look and function of your existing deck. If the configuration of your deck is the issue, we can often move stairs to a more desirable location. We can expand your deck’s footprint, and eve add more stairs. We can even convert your stair to bench steps to add extra seating. Finishing touches, such as deck lighting will also improve the safety of your deck, and provide ambiance to boot.

Long for the low maintenance of composite decking?

Azek decking with floating bench
Custom features such as this floating bench design make your deck a true outdoor living room.

If you long for low maintenance, we can replace your existing deck with a composite deck. If your deck is structurally sound, simply replacing the decking boards using the existing footprint and framework that you have may be a viable  and more affordable option. There are many low maintenance decking brands to choose from such as TimberTech AZEK and Trex. We’ve had great success with these composite brands over the years. There are also many grades of low maintenance decking to choose from including solid PVC, synthetic, composite and capstock. Each of these types include many color and finish choices and are made to suit nearly any budget and design taste. Having a low maintenance deck, whether we build it from scratch or just replace your decking boards, will deliver a deck that will look and function beautifully for many years to come.

Get more room with a deck expansion.

Composite deck with custom rail
Synthetic decks such as composite and PVC require less maintenance than a wooden deck.

When more room is needed, expanding your deck space might work. If you are adding onto your deck with a different building medium we can also re-deck the older deck to ensure both decks match.
